We got a rebate!

Julie had a pretty rough morning with a lot of nausea, perhaps leftover from the difficult drive home last night. And this afternoon she started having pretty severe siatic pain, which we were able to temper a bit with ibuprofen.  But this evening she ate a lot at dinner, including a big bowl of ice cream (nice to finally have real food), and she felt better than she's felt since the surgery.

It was time to take the bandage off, so we let the kids unwrap her.  It was a huge relief for her, taking a lot of pressure off of her head.  But the bonus is that we found the surgeons had wrapped a dollar bill into her bandage!  So the net cost of the surgery won't be nearly what we thought it would be. Honestly, though, while the hospital left a little to be desired,  I can't say enough about the skill and tenacity of both Drs. Kemper.

Tomorrow we'll take the bandage off of her belly.  They had to pull some fat from her abdomen to fill the hole in her head...no, really.  She had a number of friends gracefully volunteer to be donors, but it had to be her own fat.

Those of you who have spoken to her since the surgery know that, while she's sharp as ever, long conversations can be somewhat taxing for her. But that doesn't mean she's not extremely happy to hear from you.  She very much appreciates everyone's concern and support.  So do I.

Thanks,

Chris

Is the incision on her belly HUGE? (I know they had to do quite a bit of searching to find any fat!)

I love the "rebate"! It helps having Drs. w/such a sense of humor! And, I know that they were thrilled to have someone that they could actually give that rebate to... (I'm sure they probably don't have many patients with Julie's ability to have such a positive/wonderful outlook & find humor in a similar situation...& they obviously admire & appreciate it, as anyone who knows-or even doesn't know-Julie does.)

Julie, It's so good to hear your voice - you sound great - hopefully, I can actually talk to & see you in person, today or tomorrow, if you're up to it.
I will probably be in town most of today working on getting the rest of Kristy's cats to Emancipet - progress is being made & I'm so thrilled that they're gonna have a wonderful home on a farm with someone who takes great care of their animals!!!

Let me know if ya'll need anything from town (or anything else!).

Love You (Tweetie-Pie!),
Shelle

Way to go on that rebate! As with Shelle, I'm wondering where they found fat on Julie to fill in the hole??

Take care - thanks for the updates!

Hey Julie,

I hope you're feeling better and continuing to make great progress!

I just got home from an exhausting all-dayer... I imagine you're probably exhausted by this time of the evening. So, I'll try to call & come see you tomorrow if it works out for all involved.

It looks like Kristy's cats may come out here, afterall. The wonderful woman that was going to adopt them for her farm unfortunately went into the hospital with heart problems last night. Of course, she & her family now have much more to worry about... She says she still may end up taking them - I should know something tomorrow. Meantime, Scott, Kristy's brother is planning on trying to come out tomorrow to help me get some type of safe pen up for them in case they need to come here for a while.

Anyway.....I really want to talk to you & see you as soon as we can work it out - I miss you!

Ya'll hug each other for me!

Shelle

A hole in the head, and fat from the belly.... this doesn't even sound like our Jules - how dare they!!! Julie, I'm so glad you're enjoying the finer things in life, again - like kids, dogs, & ice cream! Can't wait to see and talk to you, but want to be sure you get some much needed rest. I'm here if you need anything!

We missed you Wednesday! The kids did great Tuesday during class. While they were doing yoga, Nana was scooping poop and keeping the dogs in line. I have learned advanced furniture moving techniques from her--I am amazed and moved by her energy level and vivacious spirit!

You take good care and continue your remarkable journey down your healing path! Love and Light~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Hey Julie,

I hope you're doing well today. Please let me know if you check your email address's mail daily. If so, I'd like to communicate w/you that way (or better yet, via phone or in person; which seems to be a logistical challenge, at this time) - most of the time. This blog is set up for YOUR PROGRESS!!!

Love & Hugs to all the Erlons!

Hope to see you SOON!

Hey Guys,

I'd love to come visit Julie sometime, fairly early, this morning --- if she's up to it.

I'll be working on the cat pen when Scott gets out here later this morning & will be going to get the cats & bring them home late this afternoon.

(When Scott gets here - I may see if we can come pick up the dog crate for a temporary place for a couple of the cats until the enclosed shelter is completed.)

I may come visit the horses/donkeys this morning & if ya'll are up & about @ that time, hopefully, I can see ya'll then!

Hugs & Love to All of Ya'll!
